Mandate
The Psychological Services Committee acts as a resource and adviser to the OACP at large, responding to issues and trends in mental health assessment, treatment, research, training, and policy as they pertain to policing. In order to meet this mandate, the Committee will:
- facilitate an exchange of ideas, procedures, and best practices as they pertain to mental health assessment, treatment, research, training, and policy for police agencies;
- assist the OACP in advancing research and the general knowledge of mental health considerations in policing through regular information briefs, presentations, and consultation with OACP member organizations;
- advance the discipline of police psychology by promoting ethical and effective practices both within the OACP and to the public at large;
- make recommendations for policy and procedural improvements to support the continued growth and development of police psychology within police services and the province as a whole, and;
- establish liaisons and key partnerships with such other organizations as may be beneficial in achieving the objectives of the OACP.
