Sustainable Funding of Policing Services

Funding policing services through grants have become a concern for police services. The Government of Ontario has indicated a desire to cut grant funding, although such efforts are generally portrayed as “modernization efforts”. The bottom line is that the current grants funding system creates uncertainty when it comes to budget planning for police services. The OACP, through its Budget, Finance, and Asset Management Committee, will engage in a review of current funding from the province as part of our Cost of Policing White Paper review.
