Statement: The Introduction of the Community Safety Policing Act, 2019

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) has long advocated for significant changes to the Police Services Act in order to assist us in the efficient and effective management of police services while enhancing public and officer safety across the province.  Efforts to modernize the delivery of policing services to the people of Ontario are welcome and needed. We believe there are items in the new Community Safety Policing Act, 2019 that are welcome in that regard.

As Ontario’s police leaders, we look forward to continuing our work with the government, all MPPs, and other stakeholders, knowing that community safety is our absolute priority. We will be launching a full review the proposed legislation, particularly in areas where the legislation may require further comment from the OACP.
