The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in our province. It is vital for public trust and confidence in our police services that all law enforcement personnel deliver policing services in a fair and respectful manner. Every person in Ontario has a right to be free of discrimination based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability. Racial profiling is not and cannot be accepted within law enforcement.
As Ontario’s police leaders, we are committed to the seven key principles outlined in the OHRC’s Policy as the basis for preventing and addressing racial profiling in law enforcement. The recommendations in the Policy are far-reaching. We look forward to working with the OHRC to address issues related to the recommendations and providing guidance to our organizations.
