The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Police Association of Ontario (PAO), and the Toronto Police Association (TPA) have worked together to provide the Ministry of the Solicitor General with some recommendations on how to keep recruits and staff at the Ontario Police College (OPC) safe while ensuring the completion of the Basic Constable Training (BCT).
The three Associations are supporting a restart date of April 12 provided the Southwestern Public Health Unit (SWPHU) also supports this date. This will allow for the College to work with the SWPHU to ensure all required health and safety measures are in place to protect recruits and staff.
The OACP, PAO, and the TPA have agreed on some recommendations regarding the vaccination of recruits, rapid testing at the College, enhanced screening measures, and a proposed schedule for the final 20 days of training.
