The COVID-19 pandemic has provided significant challenges for all police organizations when it comes to providing public education to our communities. The on-going pandemic has also posed difficulties for the OACP in terms of delivering education and training initiatives to police personnel.
While we are hopeful that Ontario will soon get the upper hand on COVID-19 through a vaccination program and continued public health measures, the OACP is planning on delivering public education and education programs throughout 2021. Here are some of the things we are working on:
- Professional Standards Course – The OACP Professional Standards and SIU Committee are planning to host a virtual Professional Standards course this spring, likely in April or May.
- A New OACP Traffic Safety Public Education Initiative – in support of Canada Road Safety Week May 18 to 24, the OACP Traffic Committee will be spearheading a road safety program in support of police service’s efforts to keep our roads safe.
- Labour Conference – The OACP will host a Labour Conference on November 17 to 18, 2021. This conference is designed for the specific needs of those in management positions in police organizations.
- Police Week – The OACP is in discussion with the Ministry of the Solicitor General on a theme for Police Week, which will be observed May 9 to 15.
