Ontario’s Police Services Launch Provincial Crime Prevention Week
Awareness in Action: Keeping Ontario Safe Together
For Immediate Release: November 4, 2024
(Toronto, ON) – In partnership with the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, police services throughout the province have launched this year’s provincial Crime Prevention Week (#CPWeek2024). The province-wide campaign takes place Sunday, November 3 to Saturday, November 9, 2024, with in-person and on-line community events designed to raise awareness of the many crime prevention initiatives being undertaken by police organizations in collaboration with community partners.
The annual Provincial Crime Prevention Week’s theme is “Awareness in Action: Keeping Ontario Safe Together”. The week provides police services with opportunities to showcase the successful collaborative efforts between police services and community partners as they work together towards the common goal of preventing crime and building safe communities throughout the province. Crime Prevention Week supports the national Community Safety and Crime Prevention Month observed throughout November.
“Crime prevention is a shared responsibility. Our police officers and other police professionals know that is a critical part of their success in keeping our communities safe,” said OACP Executive Director Paul Pedersen. “During Crime Prevention Week, police will highlight the great work of our hard working members and the many collaborations in action that make Ontario safe.”
Throughout Crime Prevention Week, police services will be reminding the public that everyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario deserves to feel safe. Community safety and well-being is a shared responsibility. Preventing crime before it happens is a goal all of us share. Ontarians are encouraged to work with their local police service(s) and other government, educational, health care, and social service providers/community groups to address crime issues in their communities.
The OACP and all police services are committed to providing the public with information and resources that can help empower individuals and communities when it comes to crime prevention. For example, the OACP makes the following informative resources available online to Ontarians:
- Hate/Bias Crimes: A Review of Policies, Practices, and Challenges: A critical resource for law enforcement personnel and community members in fighting hate and bias crimes on the rise today.
- Retail Safety & Security Guide: A comprehensive toolkit designed to help retail businesses of all sizes across Ontario prevent and reduce incidents of crime, as well as enhance customer and staff safety.
