Statement by Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police on the
Recent Violence in the Middle East & Potential Impact on Ontario Communities
October 9, 2023
The recent escalation of violence in the Middle East has caused incredible injury and death and has devastated entire communities. These events touch many people in Ontario deeply, both personally and at a community level. As Ontario's police leaders, OACP members join our fellow citizens in grieving for those who have suffered and continue to suffer from the recent violence.
Events around the globe can have a significant impact locally for Ontario communities. Since the outbreak of the recent violence, police services across our province have been actively supporting all communities during these difficult times. This includes enhanced outreach to community leaders and extra patrols around faith-based locations/institutions, community centres, etc.
The recent developments in the Middle East merit our collective concern as Canadians, particularly as they relate to persons and communities who have been impacted (directly or indirectly) by the recent violence. We hope for the ceasing of hostilities and for peace.
As police leaders, we remain committed to ensuring public safety measures for all individuals and communities across our province.
