OACP Board of Directors Announcement Contract Extension for
Executive Director Jeff McGuire, O.O.M.
The Board of Directors of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) is pleased to announce that the contract for Executive Director Jeff McGuire has been extended until June of 2024.
“The Board is pleased that Jeff will continue to lead the association through the next year as we continue to support the important work that OACP members do in leading their police organizations and serving their communities,” said OACP President Chief Nishan Duraiappah. “Throughout his long and distinguished career in policing, Jeff has demonstrated a commitment to supporting police members in serving with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to duty. We look forward to his continued leadership.”
Jeff McGuire was appointed OACP Executive Director on June 4, 2018. Prior to his appointment, he served as the 8th Chief of Police in the history of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) from June 18, 2012 until his retirement from the NRPS in July 2017.
Jeff started his policing career with the Toronto Police Service (TPS) in 1977 and held a variety of senior management positions with the service, including Staff Superintendent in charge of Operational Services, Area Field Command, and Detective Services. When Jeff left TPS in 2012 to assume the role of Chief of the NRPS, he was serving as TPS’s Acting Deputy Chief of Police, Specialized Operations, overseeing the operations of 19 specialized units with more than 2,300 employees and a $232 million budget.
In 2011, Jeff was invested as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General of Canada. In 2017, he was elevated in the Order to Officer of the Order of Merit. Jeff has also been awarded the 20-year Police Exemplary Service Medal, the 30-year Bar, and the 40-year Bar by the Governor General of Canada. In 2012, Jeff was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his community service.
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice Studies from the University of Guelph, Jeff has completed Law Enforcement Administration at the University of Toronto, the Canadian Security Studies Program at the Canadian Forces College, the Senior Management Institute in Policing Program of the Police Executive Research Forum in Boston, the Police Leadership Executive Program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
