The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) is supporting the efforts of Indigenous police services, adding the voice of police leaders to growing calls from Indigenous communities for funding justice when it comes to government support for Indigenous police services. A new resolution passed by OACP members at the Annual General Meeting held on June 14 speaks directly to the unacceptable fiscal situation which Indigenous police services in our province continue to experience.
This week, three Indigenous police services in Ontario – Treaty Three Police Service, UCCM Anishinaabe Police Service, and the Anishinabek Police Service, initiated an injunction in federal court seeking access to emergency relief funding that would enable these services to continue operating without having to borrow money.
