The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and OnStar Canada are proud to honour Sergeant Karen Hunte, Toronto Police Service as January’s recipient of our Heroes Behind the Badge award.
Years ago, Sergeant Hunte was involved in a horrific case involving a three-year-old girl, and throughout the child’s recovery, she kept in close contact with her and found ways to boost her spirits when times were tough. Over the past nine years, Sergeant Hunte has developed a relationship with the child and always makes sure that the little girl feels special and loved. We are pleased to honour Sergeant Hunte for her dedication to victims of crime.
The OACP/OnStar Canada Heroes Behind the Badge award recognizes an individual or team in a police service whose contribution to policing excellence deserves to be known and appreciated. It seeks to highlight the things beyond “operational” duties that our police officers and personnel do to support their colleagues and their communities, including random acts that make the lives of our police professionals and members of the community better. Through this award, we seek to showcase policing excellence in a positive light.
Is there someone in your police service who should be honoured for making a difference in your police organization and/or your communities?
