The OACP Equity, Diversion and Inclusion (EDI) Executive Committee met in London on November 29, 2023. The meeting was hosted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, “O” Division, and several key items were discussed, including:
- The committee has agreed to update the current OACP Hate Motived Crime Guidebook (currently posted on the OACP website). The new version will be ready to replace the existing guidebook by early January, 2024.
- The committee was fortunate to have a guest speaker, Inspector Darryl Dawkins (RCMP), who spoke about the Diverse and Inclusive Pre-Cadet Experience program (DICE), which was well received by the committee.
During the meeting it was announced that Supt. Andrew Ecklund, Toronto Police Service, will be stepping down from his position as EDI Co-Chair. Supt. Ecklund served as co-chair of the OACP EDI committee alongside Inspector Feras Ismail, Peel Regional Police, for the past year, and we offer our sincere thanks to Supt. Ecklund for all of his valuable contributions and hard work.
We are also pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Julie Craddock, Sarnia Police Service, has assumed the role of committee co-chair, and we look forward to the wealth of knowledge and experience she brings to the role.
