Accident Support Services International Ltd. (ASSI) has opened Prince Edward Island's first Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) in partnership with Charlottetown Police Services. Located at 10 Kirkwood Drive, Charlottetown, the CRC began operations on July 23, 2024, and is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. According to the Highway Traffic Act, collisions involving death, injury, or property damage exceeding $2,000 must be reported to the police, but for other cases, drivers can report at the CRC. The program is funded by supporting insurers, with no cost to the police or public.
The CRC aims to free up police resources by handling accident documentation, allowing officers to focus on more critical duties. The centre provides a comprehensive service where citizens can complete police reports, get damage documentation, and contact their insurance companies. The Collision Reporting and Occurrence Management System (CROMS) is used to electronically capture and analyze reports. Steve Sanderson, President of ASSI, highlighted the partnership's benefits and emphasized that the services are fully funded by insurers.
