  • OACP Executive Director Ron Bain attended the last meeting of 2014 for the Province’s Future of Policing Advisory Committee (FPAC) on December 17. Community Safety and Correctional Services Minister Yasir Naqvi attended the meeting and addressed those present on where he sees FPAC’s work heading in 2015. Chiefs of Police/OPP Commissioner/RCMP Assistant Commissioner “O” Division are encouraged to plan on attending the next Police CEOs Day on January 29 in North Bay. This meeting will focus on FPAC issues as well as other issues impacting the future of policing in Ontario. Information on the day’s agenda will be sent to attendees early in January.
  • Minister Naqvi has succeeded in having Bill 35, the Security for Courts, Electricity Generating Facilities and Nuclear Facilities Act passed by the Ontario Legislature. This legislation, which replaces the Public Works Protection Act, which was first introduced in 2012.
  • Some major movement on the civil service side of MCSCS: the position of Commissioner of Public Safety has been eliminated. The OACP wishes Dan Hefkey all the best in his future endeavours. Also moving on is Karen Maxwell, Assistant Deputy Minister – Policy and Strategic Planning. Finally, Glenn Murray, Assistant Deputy Minister – Public Safety Division, has been named the Ministry’s new Chief Financial Officer. The OACP Board thanked ADM Murray for his eight years of dedicated service to the Board of Directors. Glenn attended our Board meetings, bringing updates from the Ministry and adding great value to our Board discussion.
